Teresa Deck received her B.S from Baylor University and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma Since 2002 she has been a Licensed Professional Counselor and an approved LPC Supervisor. In addition to her therapeutic knowledge and years of clinical experience she is also EMDR and PIT (Post Induction Therapy) trained therapist. During her remarkable 23 year career in the behavioral health field, she has been an advocate for individuals who have experienced life with mental health, addiction, childhood trauma, and dysfunctional relationships. So, you can imagine that joining the team at Green Shoe Foundation in 2016 was, and still is, a perfect fit.
One thing Teresa will tell you is, “ An individual’s value and worth is innate. It’s not about what’s wrong with you, but more important is what happened to you during those first 18 years of life, and the meaning and stories you make up about yourself”. This truly underlines why she is the heart and soul of Green Shoe. Teresa's aspiration as a therapist is to foster healing from childhood relational trauma and encourage and educate individuals on how to experience life as a healthy functional adult, living in awareness of one’s value and worth. We are all “Precious People” on a journey towards finding connection and joy. Teresa’s faith and family are her foundations, especially when it’s time to put on her Gigi hat. When she is not advocating for mental health awareness, you can find her at home reading or baking, especially birthday cakes to help celebrate your day of joy. So, aside from signing up for a Green Shoe retreat, be sure to ask her for her favorite cake recipe, she has quite a few and they are all delicious. |
Watching individuals shed their dingy garments of self-loathing and deprecating thinking, putting on radiant robes of self-esteem, and seeing with new eyes their inherit value and worth, sometimes for the first time is humbling, awe inspiring, and unbelievably rewarding.
I love the dedicated staff and fellow coworkers who enjoy the same thing I just wrote about. I love to notice and observe their own joy when they see individuals learning to love themselves in a way the individuals never thought possible. Both are equally precious to me and create gratitude and joy for the work we are so fortunate to be a part of at the Green Shoe Foundation. |
